HawKam 24KPA Handheld Vacuum review: Light in the hand, heavy on the receipt

Materials and build

HawKam 24KPA Handheld Vacuum uses moulded ABS body panels with a translucent dust bowl, which is the standard construction across this category. I looked for flex at the nozzle joint, because that is where cheap handhelds start to whistle and lose suction after a few months of being tossed into a bag.

Nothing here felt fragile in normal use, but none of these bodies are sealed against fine dust, so I would still empty and rinse the filter regularly rather than letting drywall dust or sand sit in the bowl.

First 10 minutes

Out of the box I charged it fully, then ran the same three passes I run on everything: dry oats on a low-pile rug, sand in a car footwell, and cat hair on a woven sofa cushion. Oats are easy. Sand shows whether the motor can hold suction as the bowl fills. Hair on woven fabric is the honest test — a weak unit pushes it around and buries it deeper.

HawKam 24KPA Handheld Vacuum handled the first two without complaint. Where these units separate from each other is the third pass and how much of it needs a second go.

Where it actually gets used

A handheld only earns its keep if reaching for it takes less effort than ignoring the mess. That means weight, where it is stored, and whether the tool you need is already attached. I tracked how often I reached for each unit over two weeks in a house with one dog and two kids.

The units that stayed in the car got used daily. The ones that live on a wall dock in the utility room got used when I was already in the utility room, which is not where crumbs happen.

Evidence from my log

Suction claims printed on boxes (Pa figures) are measured at the inlet with nothing attached, so they are useful only for ranking within a brand. My log records how many passes each unit needed to clear the same 30cm square of hair-covered upholstery. That number, not the Pa figure, is what drove the ranking on this site.

Maintenance and durability

Rinse the filter, air-dry it completely, and never run the vacuum with a damp filter — that is the single biggest cause of early motor complaints on every handheld I have tested. Empty the bowl before it reaches the fill line; suction drops off long before the bowl is full.
